Today Nokia announced a new commercial DVB-H pilot in Stockholm with Teracom in Sweden. Nokia is supplying Nokia N92 mobile TV products and the Nokia Mobile Broadcast System 3.0 to the pilot that'll last from October to December 2006 and includes 400 consumers. The task can be a co-operation between ATG, Boxer, Nokia, Sveriges Radio, Sveriges Television/UR, Telenor and Teracom.

The pilot members will have the ability to watch fourteen TELEVISION channels and tune in to four radio channels within the Stockholm city area, in which a community has been designed for top quality indoor and outdoor coverage. ATG, Boxer, Sveriges Radio and Sveriges Television will provide content for the pilot. The test will be delivered using Nokia Mobile Broadcast Solution 3.0, and mobile devices will be used by the pilot participants from Nokia, the Nokia N92. Teracom is going to be in charge of the network, the running and broadcast of the platform.

"We firmly believe in the capacity of the technology as-well as in the mobile TV service, and we are looking towards delivering the full potential and curiosity of broadcast mobile TV in Sweden," says Sigurd Leth, Multimedia Director for Nokia Nordic.

DVB-H technology complements existing driver networks, improving volume and quality. It provides consumers the chance to enjoy top quality terrestrial digital shows together with internet access and voice telephony all in one device. Broadcast mobile TV will offer new business opportunities for mobile service providers, content and broadcast businesses, infrastructure and device manufacturers in addition to technology providers.

This is the second cellular TV pilot in Sweden where Nokia is one of the key suppliers of DVB-H technology. A week ago, Nokia announced a new contract with TeliaSonera Sweden to get a complete DVB-H pilot program, including Nokia Mobile Broadcast System 3.0 and Nokia N92 cellular TV products, underpinned by Nokia's hosting and systems integration know-how.
